The original is a badly damaged photograph presumably taken in the early 1950s in rural South Carolina. The author scanned the image into Adobe Photoshop and began to work on restoring the image to something nearer its original quality. While the original photograph is badly blurred from poor photography, some improvements to focus were made. Additionally, repairs were made to spotting, dust, and tears in the photograph.

Of particular note in this photograph are the cats. I didn't realize it until examinining the original, sharpened, and darkened, that Mammy was holding two kittens in her arms, there was another behind her chair, and yet another in the background. Apparently, she loved cats.
