Originally, the black and white portrait of then-Lieutenant General LeMay was too dark and subsequently it was nearly impossible to see the detail in his uniform, the pipe, and his face. Once the photograph was lightened, the detail became clear and the colorization process was much easier.

While coloring the most detailed portion of his uniform, his ribbons, I discovered the flaws. I took another, color official photograph of then General LeMay which revealed several of his ribbons out of order and one inverted. Any good Soldier knows that attention to detail in the ribbons is absolutely critical. Since the General would have had at least a Lieutenant Colonel as his personal aide-de-camp, it is embarrasing for my friends in the Air Force that their generals can't seem to wear their uniforms correctly!
