The original gray-scale engraving of the Boston Tea Party was sampled in low resolution and blended into the gray background. The author applied a grey matte from a sampling of the boat in the harbor.

In doing so, the author also demonstrated the process of cropping which examines and extracts a section of the original as a new image.
